Music choice

Music choice

Whether you’re having a band or a DJ the choice of music is important.

Build up a list of tunes you’d really like to hear – and a blacklist of those you wouldn’t.

Don’t book DJ without first rifling quickly through his CD collection to make sure it’s not all Bon Jovi!

It’s always good that your DJ has your playlist in advance, and the get the best man to bring another copy to the reception so there can be no horrible Agadoo mix-ups.

I always have a briefing with the DJ, so I will know what songs that my clients chose for their first dance, so when I make the slideshow (It’s a part of my package), I can make sure that I use the songs for my clients.

Drink orders

Drink orders

The usual choices are Pimms or Champagne for the reception party before dinner, wine with the meal and the beer, spirits and wine afterwards.

A good guideline for typical quantities is two glasses per guest for the reception drinks and then two or three glasses of wine during the meal.

It’s always good to let your catering company or restaurant know how many guests will be drinking on your special day.

These day, open tab seems to be the most popular, cost effective and easy option for everyone. Don’t forget to make bubbly available for the toasts!

You also need to remember to walk around the tables between the meals, so your photographer can photograph “the table shots” with all your guests.

Wedding web pages

Wedding web pages

In the enlightened Internet age in which we live, weddings can actually provide an excellent excuse for spending some time on the computer.

How about building your own website telling the world about the wedding?
When, Where, How, Who and more.

You don’t need to know the first thing about website building to create a professional set of pages these days.

There area lot of free websites or blogs sites out there you can post the photos and add on   the comments as easy as word documents.

My website has been created by a professional web designer and I requested him to add on this news page by using wordPress. So I can post articles like this and wedding photos that I photographed in Sydney for you to get some ideas for your wedding day.

Beach wedding idea

Beach wedding idea

If you are planning of sand between toes, there’s a whole range of options available.

In the linen suit department, there’s everything from Man from Pierce Brosnan chic to  Miami Vice crushed casual style.

Having a wedding ceremony in Balmoral Beach is one of the most popular spot in Sydney.
I have photographed wedding there a lot of times and I always enjoy photographing my clients there.

Beautiful back drop of water, big trees, old building where the reception party can be held and there is a beautiful white Gazebo in case it rains, also.

Even if you are not having a traditional wedding ceremony, having your wedding on the beach is a great option.

It’s great idea to let your photographer know in advance, so your photographer will be able to let you know what time would be the best for your photos.

A formal affair

A formal affair

You should wear a black dinner jacket, either single- or double-breasted, with ribbed silk lapels and no vents or covered buttons.

Trousers should be tapered, suitable for braces and officially, have one row of braid.
The evening shirt, in cotton or silk, with either a Marcella or a pleated front, has a soft, turn-down collar.

For the accessories, the bow tie is of black silk. Cummerbunds may be worn (with pleats opening upwards) but waistcoats are still much more acceptable.
Black tie can be made as individual  as you like with a colourful bow tie, matching waistcoat and pocket handkerchief. (They will look great when you get your photos will be taken by your photographer.)

Shoes should be black and well polished, and socks plain black. (not sports socks, boys!)

Now you know what to wear on your big day if you are the groom, but you might wants to check with your bride to see if she will like that.

As a wedding photographer, I always find the groom looks great in plain colour tie with a white shirt under your jacket.

Business suit for your wedding?

Business suit for your wedding?

The important thing at any event, and especially at your wedding, is to feel at ease.

If more formal dressing makes you feel uncomfortable, then business suits are a good alternative. This is a definitely a sharp and sophisticated choice, and white associated with register office weddings is perfectly acceptable for religious weddings as well.

It’s actually more popular to wear business suit rather than tails or tuxedos these days.

If you are keen on creating a coordinated look, you can mix a business suit with any shirt and tie, which can easily be matched for contrasted with the wedding colour theme.

Remember your wedding is an all day event, you want to wear something sharp and comfortable. You will be very active on the day, especially towards the end on the dance floor!

As a wedding photographer based in Sydney, photographing the beach wedding is one of my favourite as everyone seems to be more relaxed, so I can capture a lot of happy smiles during the ceremony.

I find the business suit in the lighter colour looks great with the white wedding dress!

Who’s the best man

Who’s the best man

The best man is meant to perform a supportive role. and not add to the pressure.

So you may want to ask someone who is not too busy or reliable.
If you have brothers, he could be the one.

In a nutshell, he organizes the stag night, accompanies the groom to the ceremony, brings the rings to the ceremony, introduces the speeches at the wedding reception (unless you have a MC on the night)  ad makes the best speech himself.

If the groom can’t or does’t want to, decide between two friends, or one can’t make the stag party and the other can’t make the wedding, it’s fine to have two best men (s).

If both are present, they can stand up front with you during the ceremony, and you can divvy up the day’s responsibilities as  follows:

One bring the rings (make sure getting your photographer to take photos of the rings) and other acts as toastmaster for the speeches, drive around during the location shoot if you only have one wedding car.

One is master of ceremonies for the day, the other makes the speech.
I make sure that I have a quick briefing with the best man before the ceremony and before speeches, so I can be sure what will be happening, so I can capture the moment.

Hope this article was helpful.

Who pays for the wedding?

Who pays for the wedding?

Nowadays, the cost of even the modest wedding can be astronomical.

In fact, the average of wedding costs AUD 23,000 according to the research in 2012.

Although traditionally the bride’s parents pay for most of the wedding, more and more couples are now paying for their own big day these days.

But whose responsibilities?

The groom is traditionally responsible for certain expenses which are:

Ceremony and Music, The bride’s wedding ring, Transport, The first night hotel and the honeymoon.

When I meet my clients for the first meeting, a lot of time both the groom and the bride comes together to see me. So they both can see me in person , view more of my my work, finding out what they are looking for in terms of wedding photography for their special day.

I also make sure that I give them good advise for their wedding preparatoion as I have been in the wedding industry for 19 years.

The Proposal Announcements

The Proposal Announcements

Proposing on the radio, during the romantic dinner, at The Opera House, during Harbour Bridge Climbing or at hot-air balloon over Hunter Valley sipping Champagne, there are million ways to propose.

My advise is whatever your chosen approach, you need to remember, Try not to embarrass her by doing too much.

The more romantic is the better, and Keep It Simple and Sincere. (K.I.S.S)

Wedding announcements are traditionally placed in the local national newspapers by the bride’s parents back in those days.

But these days, it seems to be popular to do that on Social Network sites such as Facebook.

My client had their reception party where the groom proposed to her in one of the restaurants at The Rocks in Sydney.

I photographed their wedding as well as engagement and we put on their photos on the slideshow during the reception party.
I really thought that it was such a special day for them and their guests.

Please contact us anytime if you want to discuss about your, we are happy to go through your planning as part of our service.

Planning a surprising marriage proposal?

Planning a surprising marriage proposal?

Planning a surprising marriage proposal can be as important as your wedding day.

How are you going to do that? How would you know her ring size?

The groom told me how he managed to do that during the first meeting when we met.
Here are some tips from the groom that I photographed last month at the Botanic Garden in Sydney.

Alex (the groom) firstly came up with an idea borrowing one of her female friends ring but he was told by her freind to wrap a piece of string around the bride’s finger while she is asleep and marking it where it joins.

He told me that it was easy as she usually goes to bed before him and she is a deep sleeper!

If you are planning to do that, please make sure you get the right finger (one in front of little one on your left hand).

We usually capture some photos of your rings on your wedding day, so please make sure ask your best man to take your beautiful rings to the ceremony. (You are going to need it!)
